Commercial Door Frame Anchoring Systems

There are various anchoring systems for mounting a commercial door frame, and certain anchors are more suitable for specific applications than others. Here is a brief guide to the four most common anchor types and their differences:

Compression Anchors
Compression anchors are designed for knock-down frames. These anchors use a tensioning system to compress the frame against the drywall after installation.

Stud Anchors
Stud anchors are long lag bolts intended to go through the inside of the door frame and secure into the stud beneath. For block walls, builders typically use wire or sleeve anchors and backfill the frame with concrete.

Wire & T Anchors
Wire anchors or T anchors are used during the construction of CMU walls. They are placed between each block and mortared into place. Most doors in CMU walls use welded-style door frames and are then backfilled with concrete for secure attachment.

Sleeve Anchors
Sleeve anchors are large toggle bolts designed to work within a concrete wall. A hole is pre-drilled, and the sleeve is placed within the wall. Outward pressure is created when the bolt is screwed into the anchor, pushing the flanges outward against the sides of the hole.
